The Bandar - Ankh/Burka project is an exploration of ancient sacred iconography connected with the Burqa[Burka]as a symbol of anonymity as opposed to individuality.
The burqa is usually understood to be the woman's loose body-covering [jilbāb], plus the head-covering [hijāb, taking the most usual meaning], plus the face-veil[niqāb].
It was originally used when travelling in the desert where sand was blown everywhere to keep it out of their face.
There is also evidence that this type of dress was worn by some Arab and Persian women long before Islam. //
